THE NEW MILLENIUM The 21st century, or New Millennium, has seen a number of events and changes. While many people feared that the millennium would bring on immediate destruction in terms of computers and personal safety, we have instead seen devastation in other ways. Global conflicts have increased over time and the United States has seen the effects of this in the new millennium. On September 11th, 2001 the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were targets of terrorist attacks. As a result of this, the United States declared a “War on Terror” and has since seen the loss of many American lives. Another concern that is being addressed is the environmental issue of global warming and the depletion of natural resources. Some attribute this to overpopulation while others feel that people can do their part to reduce the damage done to the environment. Recycling, carpooling and reducing uses of key resources are some ways to help. © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved. Many technological developments exist in the 21st century. Cell phones, computers, digital cameras, and navigational systems are commonly purchased goods. Many people contribute a lack of interpersonal relationships to the rise in communication devices. There have also been great developments in cultural affairs as well as in music, sports, and art, all of which have contributed to positive experiences in American society. © Copyright NewPath Learning.
