THE NATION GROWS AND EXPANDS What do you know about the Growth of Our Nation? Around the turn of the 19th century, many changes were occurring in the United States. The industrialization of what had previously been rural and agricultural land led to a different lifestyle for many people. Factories were beginning to spring up in the United States, leading to the growth of cities. Men, women and children were put to work in factories under poor conditions. While factory growth promoted new technology and ways of life, many people struggled during the Industrial Revolution. In other parts of the nation, new highways were being built to promote new ways of transportation. These roads helped advance trade and travel in the United States. Other inventions, such as the cotton gin and steam engine, also played a role in the expansion of the United States. During the time period between 1790 and 1825, there was a myriad of inventions and ideas that helped our country grow. © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
