Ancient Greece was made up of many city-states that lived in different ways. These city-states were each known for special things. Sparta and Athens were two of the main city-states. Ancient Greece is known as the birthplace of democracy. The people of ancient Greece helped us to become the society that we are today. They helped to create sports, theater, the alphabet and many other things that we use today. Many other cultures and people tried to take control of ancient Greece. When Alexander the Great became the leader of Greece, he expanded the empire to Asia, Egypt, and other areas. As the empire grew larger, the Greeks began to learn about other cultures. © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
