DECIMALS AS EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS What Are Decimals as Equivalent Fractions? This shows the relationship between decimals and fractions. Fractions can always be written as decimals. Any number written in the form a/b can be converted to a decimal by dividing a by b. When converting decimals to fractions, you have to pay attention to the decimal places. For example, .6 is 6 tenths. This means we have 6 over ten, the fraction 6/10. How to convert decimals to equivalent fractions: 1. Read the numerical decimal, paying close attention to the ending. 2. Place the number in the decimal, written as a whole number, in the numerator of the fraction. 3. Look at the ending of the decimal as read in step 1. Take the 'ths' off the end and place the numeric value of the number you have in the denominator. 4. Simplify the fraction. Example: 0.45 = 45 = 9 100 20 Try This! 0.9 0.75 0.25 0.3 0.6 © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
