COMPARING AND ORDERING NUMBERS What Is Comparing and Ordering Numbers? Ordering numbers means listing numbers from least to greatest, or greatest to least. Comparing numbers means looking at the values of two numbers and deciding if the numbers are greater than, less than, or equal to each other. Two symbols are used in comparing numbers: < (less than) and > (greater than). How to Compare and Order Numbers: Ordering Numbers Place the numbers in order from least to greatest, or greatest to least. Example: 45, 62, 79 (least to greatest) 100, 81, 54 (greatest to least) Comparing Numbers Compare two numbers and decide if they are less than, greater than, or equal to each other.
