GEOMETRY: POLYGONS What Are Polygons? Polygons are many-sided figures, with sides that are line segments. Polygons are named according to the number of sides and angles they have. A polygon is a closed figure made by joining line segments. The most familiar polygons are the triangle, the rectangle, and the square. How to name polygons: Polygons are named by the amount of sides they have. Count the sides, then name the polygon. 3 sides - triangle 4 sides - quadrilateral 5 sides - pentagon 6 sides - hexagon 7 sides - heptagon 8 sides - octagon 9 sides - nonagon 10 sides - decagon 11 sides - hendecagon 12 sides dodecagon Example: this 4-sided polygon is a quadrilateral. © Copyright NewPath Learning.
