COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY What is the Commutative Property? The Commutative Property is used in addition. Commutative Property is when a number sentence is turned around and it still means the same thing. How to Figure Out Commutative Property Problems: Using the Commutative Property, it can be said that 3 + 2 = 5 is the same as 2 + 3 = 5. This means that 3 + 2 = 2 + 3. No matter which way the 2 and the 3 sit, the answer remains the same. 4 + 6 = 10 6 + 4 = 10 4 + 6 = 6 + 4 This is the Commutative Property. The Commutative Property cannot be used with subtraction problems. For example, 3 2 = 1, but 2 3 = does not make sense. Try This! Using the Commutative Property, draw lines to make the proper number sentences. 3 + 5 = 7 + 4 4 + 7 = 6 + 8 2 + 9 = 5 + 3 8 + 6 = 9 + 2 © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
