SIMPLE SUBJECT AND PREDICATE OF A SENTENCE What are the Subject and the Predicate of a Sentence? The subject of a sentence is who or what the sentence is about. The predicate of a sentence is the doing or action part of the sentence. The predicate tells us what the subject of the sentence is doing. Example Haley sat down at her computer. Which word or words are the subject of the sentence? a] Haley b] sat c] down d] at her computer The correct answer is a] Haley. The sentence is about Haley, so Haley is the subject of the sentence. Which word or words are the predicate of the sentence? a] Haley b] Haley sat c] sat down d] sat down at her computer The correct answer is d] sat down at her computer.
