Study Guide Cause/Effect, Fact/Opinion English Language Arts, Grade 6

CAUSE AND EFFECT Cause and effect refers to the relationship between two events. CAUSE is something that makes something else to happen…an EFFECT. A cause is WHY something happens and an effect is WHAT happened as a result of that cause. There may be more than one cause or effect in a situation. Example: Cause: The grass grew long. Effect: My Dad cut the grass. Fact vs. Opinion A fact is information that is known to be true. A fact is a certainty. A fact does NOT change from person to person. An opinion is a personal belief or idea. An opinion is not a certainty for all people because all people do not have the same beliefs. Example: Fact: There are four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall. Opinion: Fall is the best season. © Copyright NewPath Learning. All Rights Reserved.
