KINDS OF SENTENCES What Kinds of Sentences Are There? There are four different kinds of sentences: A declarative sentence makes a statement. An exclamatory sentence expresses a strong emotion. An interrogative sentence asks a question. An imperative sentence gives a command. Examples: A declarative sentence: My dog is a West Highland white terrier. An exclamatory sentence: I can't wait for summer vacation to begin! An interrogative sentence: Are you ready to eat lunch yet? An imperative sentence: Stop playing that video game right now!
