CAUSE/EFFECT, FACT/OPINION What is Cause & Effect? A cause always has an effect. There is a reason why something happens. An effect happens as a result of a cause. Something happens for a reason. Example: Billy was hungry so he ate a sandwich. Cause = Billy was hungry Effect = he ate a sandwich What is a Fact? A fact is something that is known to be true. Example: The flag of the United States is red, white, and blue. This sentence is a FACT. It is known to be true. It is not a personal opinion, it is a statement that is true no matter who said it, because the flag of the United States IS red, white, and blue. What is an Opinion? An opinion is a PERSONAL belief or judgment Example: Chocolate tastes delicious. This sentence is an OPNION. Some people, including yourself, may think chocolate is delicious, but other people may not think so.
