Most insects go through complete metamorphosis, but some, such as dragonflies, go through incomplete metamorphosis. This life cycle includes only three stages of development: egg, nymph, and adult. 1. Egg - Female dragonflies lay their eggs on a plant in the water. 2. Nymph - Dragonfly nymphs hatch from the eggs and live in the water while they eat and grow. This stage of their life may take several years. 3. Adult - When a nymph is fully developed, it crawls out of the water onto a plant stem. It sheds its skin (exuvia) and an adult dragonfly emerges. 1 2 3 eggs nymph adult sheds its skin
