Tables Collecting data You can collect data (information) from other people using polls and surveys. Scientists collect data from experiments. Tables and graphs help us organize and interpret collected information. The mean is the average of a set of numbers. To find the mean, add all the numbers in the set and divide the sum by the number of items in the set. The median is the middle number when the data are in numerical order. The mode is the number that occurs most often in a set of data.
