The author uses the phrase “Here we go again” to show that Bud had been in foster homes before. Bud tries to hop the trains with a new friend because that’s what many people did during the Depression. Bud, Not Buddy takes place during the Depression and the racism at that time threatened the main characters in this book. Bud remembers back to when he was young and carries his mother’s words with him through- out the story.
