Select a book and scan its cover and title to confirm that it’ s probably an interesting book. Read the summary of the book on the back. Open to a page in the middle of the book that is filled with text. As you read, put up a finger for every word you don’t know . Determine if the book is at an independent reading level. If 4 or 5 fingers are raised, then begin again to look for a just right book.
